It’s Easy Being Green! Top Tips For Sustainability In The Office

For the past three years, P4 Group has been lucky enough to work with CitySmart, Brisbane’s sustainability agency, helping them to achieve their goal of making Brisbane a cleaner, greener city. At P4, we pride ourselves on being an extension of our clients’ teams, and working with CitySmart is no exception. Our regular meetings with the CitySmart team always involve them sharing some green pearls of wisdom on how we can be more sustainable in our day-to-day lives, whether it be around greener Christmas gifting, smarter transportation or tips for saving paper in the office. Of course, the rest of the P4 team are always willing to get on board with initiatives that will help our planet, with new sustainability measures being introduced into the office on a regular basis.

Here are P4 Group’s top tips for an environmentally-friendly, sustainable office.

Stock reusable pens

If you’re anything like us, you’re always misplacing your pens, only to find 20 hidden at the bottom of your handbag/laptop bag/car the next time you have a clean-out. Rather than buying disposable pens, why not invest in good quality branded pens for your business, and provide ink refills for staff? They’re much nicer to write with, and it’s for a great cause!

Go digital

This one might be obvious in this day and age, but there is always room to improve. Do you really need an agenda for every person in the meeting, or can one be shared between two? Is it possible to bring your laptop to the meeting and skip out on the paper altogether? Can proposals and strategies be shared digitally? Today, almost anything can be done digitally, so it makes sense to take advantage of it.

Compost

As much as we try to use every part of the fruit and vegetables we buy, there is often a little waste left over. Rather than putting this waste straight into the bin, one of our team members brings it home for her chickens to eat. Check if there is someone within your office who has a use for food scraps, such as composting, worm farms or pets…or better yet, start your own compost bin!

Keep that cup

We love our coffee at P4 Group, however, we don’t love the impact that disposable cups have on our planet. Keep Cup, along with a number of other brands, have created reusable, sustainable coffee cups in a range of designs. Many coffee shops are offering a discount if you bring your own cup, so not only will you be saving the environment, but you’ll also be helping your hip pocket! Your coffee will also stay hot for much longer in one of these cups as opposed to a paper cup. You really can’t lose!

Power down

One of the largest consumers of office power is from machines and appliances that are turned off, but still plugged into a live outlet. The P4 team make a conscious effort to turn off power at the source before leaving each night, which saves hundreds of dollars in unnecessary standby power.
