COMMUNICATIONS AND STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT, LAND ACCESS

    DESIRED OUTCOME

    Effective stakeholder communication.

    CHALLENGE

The Northern Pipeline Interconnector (NPI)  Stage 2 is a $468 million bi-directional flow pipeline running from the Noosa Water Treatment Plant, to the NPI Stage 1 system at Eudlo creating a sophisticated and flexible water pipeline network. It is a vital piece of drought contingency infrastructure that has the capacity to transport up to 65 megalitres per day of potable water between the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane. Ironically, construction was affected by constant wet weather, challenging the team to keep audiences continuously engaged throughout changing construction schedules.

    SOLUTION

Consistent and timely consultation was paramount for affected landholders on this project. A variety of communication strategies were used including:

    • Communication and consultation materials – fact sheets, advertisements, construction notices, letters, 1800 number, one-on-one meetings, events and site tours
    • Government relations and education/schools programs
    • Local industry participation (spread message third hand)
    • Issues/crisis framework and protocols – including media plans
    • Internal communications
    • Community investment and legacy

    RESULT
    • Consultation with over 20,000 individual stakeholders
    • Strong to excellent responsiveness to stakeholders through the 1800 number and written correspondence
