    CHALLENGE

    Downer took a significant step towards a greener future by committing $10 million to upgrade its existing 1980s Bli Bli Asphalt Plant on the Sunshine Coast. The integrated manufacturing facility is the first on the Sunshine Coast to be able to produce warm mix asphalt.

     


    SOLUTION

    A community engagement campaign was developed and implemented aiming to dispel misinformation and provide residents and other directly impacted and concerned stakeholders with access to educational information. Activity included:

    • Directly impacted stakeholder audit and assessment
    • Creation and distribution of FAQ and Mythbusting leaflets
    • Community door knock
    • Phone consultation
    • One-on-one meetings with directly impacted and concerned residents
    • Providing concerned residents with access to independent environmental information and experts
    • Development of additional environmental resources
    • Meetings and tours with Sunshine Coast Regional Council, relevant / interested local councillors and other stakeholders

    RESULT
    • Consultation with approx. 100 local residents
    • Approval of Development Application by council in February 2013
    • Completion of plant in December 2013
