She’s a highly skilled strategic marketer, having undertaken Corporate Communications and Investor Relations for several stock exchange listings, and consulted to the Department of Innovation and Tourism Industry Development on a range of major projects. Besides my time at P4 Group, it would have to be living and working in New York for a year. It was an amazing experience for me, both professionally and personally. I’d be in back to back meetings with the wolves of Wall Street by day, and enjoying all the city had to offer by night.
Probably the guilt that comes with being a working mum. I know that guilt is such a wasted emotion, but it’s a daily juggle to make things work. That being said, I get so much fulfillment from my career that I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Keep up the hustle. I often wondered if I would ever regret not backpacking around the world for a few years with my friends after University. Instead, I went straight into full time work and threw everything at it. It meant that I advanced my career pretty quickly and was fortunate enough to set myself up financially sooner. I don’t regret my decision, and I’ve made time for plenty of travel, too!
Working on a Government tender for an international consortium to deliver a major infrastructure project is the first that springs to mind. It involved coordinating multiple specialist consultants from across the globe and a team of graphic designers under extreme time pressures to deliver a winning bid. I recall having 2.00am meetings with the client in a hotel lobby, and being in the office until the sun came up one morning. I drove home at 6.00am a few times.
Marketing strategy. I also love branding and creative projects.
Be prepared and back yourself. Being business partners with Mel for seven years and working together before that, there were a number of times we went up against some pretty fierce competition when pitching for some big projects. Our tactic was to always be prepared and to 100% back ourselves, and that always paid dividends.
The passion and ideas we bring to projects. We truly invest in our client’s vision and bring the P4 spirit to all that we do to deliver the best outcomes.
It sounds cliché, but it’s the people and the projects, so the staff and the clients. I love what I do, and coming to work to be surrounded by so many great minds is really fulfilling.
